UltraMax
Project was founded in 2001 by Russian-American
scientist turned musician, Dr. Max Fomitchev-Zamilov,
also known as UltraMax in the realm of underground
dance music.
From the start UltraMax Project was about the fusion
of classical and techno music. While many artists
attempted to fuse the disparate genres none achieved
lasting success. Yanni, Vanessa Mae, Alexander Holt,
William Orbit, and DJ Paul van Dyk are among those
who have recently took a stab at the fusion. The
reason the previous attempts did not 'catch on' is
because in order to be truly revolutionary one has
to be equally proficient with classical music as he
is with techno. This is where UltraMax's unusual
upbringing plays to the strength of the Project:
with background in classical piano performance and a
Ph.D. in computer engineering UltraMax's psyche
resides squarely in-between the genres. Add to that
an infatuation with Depeche Mode, Tchaikovsky, and
German composers from Bach to Beethoven, and you
have a recipe for some unusual grooves. Inspired by
Paul van Dyk and Mozart UltraMax combines the power
of beat with purity of violins and cellos creating
dance music that is very driving yet intelligent and
melodic.
UltraMax has 9 albums and 4 vinyl EPs to his credit.
His songs are played by DJs and dance radio stations
worldwide with dance singles
Letting Go (2006) and
I'm Attracted to You (2009) rising to #5 and #7
respectively on underground dance music charts
(according to recordpoolcharts.com).
In his studio UltraMax uses 8-core Mac Pro, Logic
Pro 9, Access Virus TI, Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56,
Spectrasonics Omhisphere, Native Instruments
Komplete with Kore 2, and EastWest samples to create
music.
The mission of UltraMax Project is to bring classics
to the next generation. With the patronage of
classical music declining orchestras throughout the
nation are struggling to keep afloat. We hope that
by treating classical and techno music as equals, by
combining scores of classics with the original
music, and by having UltraMax Project musicians
perform alongside a symphonic orchestra we will be
able to attract younger audiences to classical music
performances. UltraMax Project is a creative
collaboration of peers that relentlessly work on
developing new ways of performing and presenting
both classical and techno music.
